Helping you and your family stay free of harmful parasites can be a tasty experience!
Here are nine anti-parasitic foods that you can add to your shopping list next time you visit the supermarket:
- Almonds (skins)
- Beets/Beetroot
- Capsicums
- Garlic (raw)
- Horseradish
- Papaya (seeds)
- Pineapple
- Pomegranate Juice
- Pumpkin (seeds)
An added benefit of adding these foods to your diet is that most of them help to alkalize your digestive system, balancing the acid-inducing effects of many modern/refined foods.
The Science:

Almonds | The skin of almonds is the part that keeps parasites at bay. As a general rule, bitter foods are natural parasite deterrents. As with all nuts, it is best to soak the almonds in water overnight before eating. |

Beets | Beets contain boron and iodine and also Vitamin C, which is proven to boost the immune system. Beets are a big favourite of mine, but many people have a deep dislike of them. My guess is that that’s because they ate them soaked in vinegar when they were kids and can’t get over that experience. Try eating them fresh (cooked) or use them in juices. |

Capiscum | (including chilies and other hot peppers) a natural source of antibiotic. |

Garlic | (Allium sativa) has been found to have activity against Ascaris (roundworm), Giardia lamblia, Trypanosoma, Plasmodium, and Leishmania. Garlic is available in capsule and tablet form as well as whole garlic cloves in food stores. When eating raw garlic, crush or cut before ingesting. |

Horseradish | Horseradish is a member of the cabbage family and is effective against some types of worm. When horseradish is cut, the powerful antibacterial ingredient allylisothiocyanate is released. Best grated fresh from the root – add to soups or stir-fries for a bit of extra zing. |

Papaya Seeds | Papaya Seeds contain enzymes that help to digest protein. They are as hot and peppery, so eat with care! |

Pineapple | Pineapple contains the digestive enzyme bromelain. A diet rich in pineapple can help to clear certain parasites such as tapeworms. |

Pumpkin Seeds | Pumpkin Seeds have been used for centuries as a remedy for tapeworms and roundworms. An easy way to give pumpkin seeds to your kids is to sprinkle some on salads. They give a good crunch to the dish too! |

Pomegranate Juice. | Studies have shown that 4 glasses of pomegranate juice daily will kill tapeworms. |
Further Notes:
Sweet potato, carrots and squash are all rich in beta-carotene, a precursor for vitamin A. Vitamin A is thought to increase resistance to penetration by larvae.
Vitamin C and zinc also support the immune system
Foods to avoid when you are dealing with parasitic infection are alcohol, coffee, dairy, refined sugar and refined foods.
